Eureka!

I made another attempt to find a plugin that would let people edit or delete their comments… and I finally found one!

It does have some limitations though (because they’re trying to sell a “pro” subscription version which costs more than I can justify). The big limitation is that it only works for logged-in users, so this might be the first really good reason to make an account. It also forces a time limit, which I set for a generous 48 hours.

Anyways, this is still experimental, but I hope this will prove useful. Please let me know if you encounter any problems with it. And as before, if you’re not logged in, you can just reply to yourself and ask me to fix it. (e.g. “Replied in wrong place, please delete.” or “Oops, baked->naked.”) and I’ll correct it and remove the extra comment.

In case you wanna test it out, I suppose the comments on this post would be the place to do it. Please delete any test comments once they’ve served their purpose.

      • When you edit a comment, the comment box gets replaced with the comment editing box. If the comment is deleted, the comment editing box disappears, but the comment box does not reappear until the page is refreshed. (Only on mobile)

        • Ah, I see. I hadn’t tested it on mobile. Unfortunately we’re probably stuck with that behavior . I don’t really have the stills to tweak the internals of how plugins work. I was pleased to find something that lets people edit comments at all. The only one I found in the past completely replaced the standard comment system and seemed way over-complicated.

As long as a refresh fixes it, I suppose it’s not too big a problem, though I agree it’s not ideal.
