  1. Just as a setting consistency detail I have to mention that parents, or more rarely, schools can use topless punishments, but it would be quite unusual as criminal sentence, which seems to be implied here by the involvement of a judge.

But I try not to be too strict on these things, especially for less frequent contributors. The other part of the law as presented here, the fact that the judge couldn’t/wouldn’t make any exception for conventional propriety is spot on.

Incidentally, fantanu also mentioned the model’s name is Lidia Savoderova, so I guess I’ll just share that here while I’m at it.

    • Ah! I’m glad you made that clarification as it explains why one of my recent efforts (Lost Appeal) didn’t get published. I should have remembered that courts don’t usually impose topless penalties. D’oh!

      • Honestly I’m not sure if that’s true or not, it certainly could be but I’ll have to go back and look. I’ve got a pretty bad backlog of submissions, that are not very organized. I’ve been trying to work on cleaning that up the last couple days.

        • Taking into account what you said and Cato’s reply I can easily go back into the file, change a few words and resubmit. No problem at all and hopefully an improvement on the original!

    • If one registers as topless, one would seek a judicial action to change that status. Judges are not only criminal proceeding overseers. Judges also handle mundane requests, like getting your name legally changed.

“topless punishment” does not necessarily mean a criminal sentencing. A parent, guardian, spouse could impose a “punishment” that then caused the individual to register.

I think at times, we try to read why too much into these stories, and some over-read what is written to fit the caption into their limit view of this universe. Step back and enjoy the greater scene.

      • Since Cato is the number one grammar policeman, I am surprised there are so many errors in the third paragraph above.
        1. why should be way.
        2. some should be sometimes.
        3. limit should be limited.
I think we don’t really need grammar policeman in Comments. A quick note through Contact to our hardworking moderator who has provided this excellent website for so long should be sufficient.
