  1. So a long time ago, gowk24 on tumblr sent a caption where a doctor gave a woman a “prescription for permanent nudity” (reposted here). And I wondered what that might mean in practice.

Well, I decided to make that official. N.U.M.A. (Nudity Under Medical Advice) is a special type of registration where you can get an individualized exception from indecency laws for the purpose of aiding in recovery or accommodating a disability. It is voluntary, but if you agree to it, you have to practice at all times, as with other types of permanent nudity. The big advantage is it could be for much shorter that the typical 1 or 2 year minimum. Got a bad sunburn on your breasts? If wearing a shirt is too uncomfortable, your doctor could write you a N.U.M.A. prescription for going topless just until it heals.

It probably won’t come up too often, but it’s officially part of the setting now. Though as I often say, these laws aren’t universal and some places might not have that option.
