    • No, it isn’t. ‘Aids’ is the plural of ‘Aid’; ‘Aides’ is the plural of ‘Aide’. These are two different words with different meanings.

      Aide:

      1. An assistant, a helper. In early use frequently in military contexts.
      3. Chiefly U.S. A person employed as an assistant or ancillary worker, esp. at a hospital, or in the home of an elderly or disabled person.

      Aid:

      4. a. A means or source of help or assistance; anything used to assist in performing a task, esp. (in later use) a tool, device, or other object used in this way.
[quote supporting plural spelling] 1972 Pop. Mech. Feb. 113/1 Other aids you can buy include test tapes for checking on various performance characteristics and head-cleaning tapes.

(The above is from the OED online)

As you can see ‘aide’ refers to people, and ‘aid’ refers to things. The aids referred to in the first paragraph are items like ice axes, ropes and crampons; therefore, ‘aids’ is the correct spelling.

P.S. Since it is the acronym for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, the correct spelling of the disease would be AIDS, not aids
