WordPress has surprisingly few good options for captcha plugins. There’s the Google one of course, there’s any number that come as part of some complex security suite, there’s the old one that stopped working on the comment form, there’s one that forces visitors to mine crypto… But good options? Not really (unless you like Google, I guess).

So, getting to the point, the solution I settled on is, I admit, more of a “least bad” kind of thing. The old captcha with the funny phrases (nude boobs, etc.) will stick around for the contact form, login etc. And comments get an ugly little three letter code. If you have a long, thoughtful comment to share, I recommend copying it to your clipboard in case something goes wrong, because going back from the error page seems to reset the form. (Believe me, if I knew how to fix that I would.) Logged in users are still exempt though, so that’s one bright spot.

Yeah, I’m aware. Not much I can do on my own, but I’ve contacted my host.

Edit: Sorry for the vague message, I wrote that when the site was working extremely poorly and I feared if I wrote a whole paragraph to explain it would be down again before I could post it!

Anyway, I did get a response to my support ticket overnight. I can’t say that it was completely reassuring because they couldn’t find a specific source for the problem. But they rebooted my server and said they optimized the web server and database software. Perhaps that will help, it does seem to be working fine again for now.

Edit 2: Alright, it’s been a day and no more trouble apparently so I guess it’s fixed.

To fill in people who might not be aware, this blog used to be on Tumblr, but they deleted it not long before going all prude (though I’ve heard they backtracked a bit on that more recently.)

So, when I restarted the blog on paid hosting, I made an archive of the old stuff available as a torrent. But around the end of last year I got a new computer, and honestly I wasn’t really sure how to start sharing it again and still have it count as the same file, so I kinda let it be, hoping someone else was still sharing it. Well, I guess no one was. But serendipitously, I was just doing a little “ego search”, looking for mentions of Nude World Order online, and found that somehow that torrent found its way onto Internet Archive. Pretty sure I never put it there, though it seems to credit me…

Anyway, if you tried to download that torrent before and it didn’t work, here’s a new link which should. Or if you never knew about but are interested, likewise. You’ll need a torrent client of course. If you do download it, please consider seeding (i.e. leaving your torrent client running) to help share it with others.

Yes, it’s fine to send in your own nudes. But you still need to include a proper caption that fits the theme of this blog! I’m sure showing your dick off is exciting enough on its own for you, but put some work in and try to make the submission interesting for the rest of us, OK?

So, starting tomorrow (April 3rd) I’m gonna be out of town on a road trip to see the total eclipse. I’ll be gone for about a week but I’ll try to get some posts (probably one per day) queued up ahead of time, so nobody thinks the blog is dead or anything.

Those of you who have been with me from the tumblr days may remember I took off to see the last one visible in the US, in 2017, as well, and came back with this crappy picture (obviously from before totality).

Technology marches on, so perhaps, weather permitting, I’ll get something a little better this time. I’ll share them if so. Wish me luck.

I encourage US (or Mexican) residents to try and see it if they can. Seeing totality is something special, but if you live where it’s only partial and can’t get away, it’s still worth taking a moment to check it out. If you don’t have solar viewer (don’t look at the sun without one!) an interesting effect you can still observe is how dappled light through leaves turns into little crescents instead of discs.

So it looks like my site is hitting some limits again. So I’m upgrading to a better (pricier) hosting plan, and but it’s a little more than just simple a step up, because it’s a different kind of plan, “VPS” instead of “Shared”. This means they’re technically making a new site and copying everything over. This should be fairly smooth, but just so you know, there could be a little bit of weirdness over the next day or two, while I get DNS updated and so forth.

Edit: Looks like it worked. Got a few little details to finish up, but so far so good.

Edit2: I’m not sure if my email (and contact forms) configured right for the new server. If you’ve got any submissions, you might wanna just hold onto those for a little bit. I’ll let you know when I’m confident it’s working.

Edit3: It’s working now.

Apparently some recent update slightly broke things such that it looks like every submission has the “personal picture” and “caption is rough idea” boxes checked… I’ll look into it when I have some time. But for now, I guess if you want to tell me either of those things you’ll just have to put it in the notes.

Once again gonna do some long-put-off updates of plug-ins and such on my WordPress install. Let me know if anything breaks.

P.S. I know I’m also pretty behind on submissions. Hopefully now that my computer situation is stable I’ll be able to make some progress catching up, but it’s not going to be easy.

I noticed that the Random link at the top always takes you to the HTTP version of the site, regardless of which you were using before. This might cause logged-in user to be signed out. Donno if anyone was having a problem with that, but if you were, it should be fixed now.

Edit: Oops, it was worse than I thought, the Home link did it too. Fixed that as well. Let me know if you notice any more places where this happens.
