Category: Commentary

FYI, tags have descriptions now

When you click a tag, either below a picture or in the tag cloud on the right, the page that comes up now has a short description at the top, in addition to listing the posts with that tag. For example “car” explains “Most pictures are tagged “indoors” or “outdoors”. I decided cars (and other vehicles) aren’t quite either one, so they get this tag instead.” Some of these also give you a little background info on how it fits into the setting like “In the Nude World Order universe, bottomless status is normally reserved for use as a punishment.”

Holiday Captions

I always like posting seasonal, holiday, or otherwise timing captions. I did OK on this last one, but you may have noticed the pictures tended more towards cosplay than typical Halloween fare. Lately I’ve been having a fairly hard time finding suitable pictures (I guess there aren’t all that many out there) so I just want to mention that any submissions of pictures related to an upcoming holiday are always welcome (with or without captions). Obviously Christmas is the next big one coming up  so please be on the lookout for naked Christmas pics! (Or Thanksgiving I suppose, but I’m not sure there’s much that can be done with that one.)

Side Blog Returns (Kinda)

So “mixed by default” won, 3:1. For those of you who don’t want to see the commentary mixed in (or ever), all you have to do is bookmark this link. That’s the “Content” category. The side blog type stuff will be in the “Commentary” category. There are now links on the side bar for showing either one alone. Otherwise you’ll see both. Thanks to everyone who voted. At least 72 votes so far, and I’m fairly pleased with that. It’s not in the same ballpark as the number of followers I had on Tumblr, but who knows how many of those accounts were even active. Seventy real visits (by people engaged enough to vote no less) over a weekend is fine by me.

Anyway, this isn’t necessarily final, if anyone really doesn’t like this setup, I’m open to other ideas, so please let me know. But that’s the plan for now, we’ll see how it goes. I guess this is the first official “Commentary” post. I’ll have to think of something more fun to talk about next time.

Poll (serious)

Hehe, no I didn’t plan this when I posted the other one, but I’ve got a question for you guys. A while ago, someone asked if I had considered bringing back the “side blog” like I had on Tumblr, where I would talk about background details on the world, or blog business that I didn’t want to clutter the main thing with. (Like this would probably go there, if I had it.) I’ve posted some of this kind of thing as comments on pictures, which is fine, but it’s not very visible or good for random thoughts that aren’t about a picture.

Thing is, WordPress works differently, so setting up a completely separate blog isn’t as easy and may not be the best solution anyway. WordPress has “categories” which are kind of like tags, but usually broader. So what I’m thinking I’ll do is post the “side blog” stuff right here, but in a separate category from the captions. This way you can read both together or go to the category view and see them separately if you prefer. The main question is whether people would prefer it together by default (slightly easier) or separate by default.

TL;DR are you interested in seeing commentary and discussion posts, and if so, how separate from the captions should they be?

Here’s the poll.

This will also give me an idea how many readers I have, which I’m curious about. So I included and option you can use to let me know you’re here, even if you don’t care about the side blog stuff either way.

New Feature(s)

Thus far I’ve basically been working to recreate the functionality I had on Tumblr. But here, finally, is something that’s actually better. On the right side of the page, below the tag cloud there’s a box where you can enter a combination of tags and see only posts that have all of them. For example work+school will get you naked teachers (currently only two), willing+unhappy for captions where people who registered voluntarily but it didn’t go as planned, or new+humor for funny captions that are not reposts from tumblr. Currently this blog’s catalog of pictures is small compared to the old one, but I expect this feature will become more attractive as the collection grows larger.

Also new, between the archive drop-down and the tag cloud, there’s a text search. Not super useful since the blog is mostly pictures, but one thing you could use it for is to find pictures submitted by a particular contributor.

New system for bulk submissions

As you probably recall, a little while ago I found out my submission form doesn’t like zips for some reason. To give people another option if they have several pictures to share, I set up a new form where you can send up to 10 pictures at once. This is accessible from a link at the top of the Submit page. Emailing submissions is still fine too, of course.

Tiny Text and Big Pictures

I know tiny text is annoying, but sometimes I or a contributor has an idea that just needs a bit of explanation and we can’t resist. But there’s good news, most of the pictures are larger than they’re initially shown. Previously the full size version was hard to get to, but I’ve changed it so all you have to do is click one to blow it up. That should make reading the text easier, and hey, you might want to admire something else in the pictures more closely too.

Yay, it’s working again.

Alright it looks like the problem has been resolved, and for the record, it probably wasn’t  my web host after all. Apparently my ISP was having some kind of partial outage in my area, I suspect maybe a routing goofup. Anyway I didn’t actually notice any other sites affected, but apparently there were, and not just for me.

Please stand by…

I’m having some technical difficulties with my host. I can’t reach the blog from my computer, only my phone. Very odd. Anyway it will be hard to post much until I get this cleared up. Hopefully that won’t take too long.
