WordPress is bugging me to update, and it sounds like a major change. I’m holding off for the moment while investigate the ramifications, but it’s probably something I’ll have to do sooner or later. I mention this because 1) if anyone more knowledgeable than I about WordPress has any advice it would be much appreciated and 2) worst case scenario the site could go down for a while if things go sideways. Not likely, but just in case, I wanted to give you all a heads-up. Should that happen, don’t panic, I’ll be working hard to put it back together.

RIP Tumblr.

So apparently as of Dec 17, Tumblr will no longer allow adult content. Sure makes me glad I went and set up my own site when I did. I’m hardly an expert or anything, but if anyone wants advice on setting up their own site, feel free to contact me. Maybe we could set up a loose confederation of tumblr exiles or something.

Tumblr says they will give people a chance to move their stuff (a chance I never got, but thankfully I’d made my own backups), but for anyone still there, I think it would be wise to back up your adult blog now. One tool that I’m aware of is TumblThree. That might be useful for saving content from other people’s blogs too. For your own blog, Tumblr also has a built-in export feature, which you can access by going to settings, clicking the name of your blog (even if you have only one) can scrolling to the bottom. It’s also possible to import a tumblr blog from a WordPress one, though I haven’t done this myself.

Just thought I’d take a moment to highlight the Random link (also conveniently located in the bar just under the heading, or by tapping “Site Navigation” on mobile). If you’re a big fan, you might even want to drag it to your bookmarks.

Since this new blog has been up for over a year now, there’s a decent back catalog and even if you’ve been with me that whole time chances are there are some great ones you don’t really remember. Using Random is fun way to find some captions you might have missed and revisit old favorites too. I don’t keep statistics on this kind of thing, so I really have no idea how often people use Random, but if you don’t already, why not hit it a few times?

So the webmaster of that site sent me a message, and apparently the host took it down because it attracted a denial of service attack. “Great service”, as he put it. Anyway he’s looking into getting it back online. I assume I’ll hear when that happens.

Over the weekend I noticed all About Nudity, the site where I posted some of my old stories, was down. I just get “403 Error. Forbidden.” Hadn’t checked it for a while so I’m not sure how long it’s been down.

I mention this mainly in the hope that the webmaster will get in touch and let me know what’s up. If that happens I’ll pass it on.

Edit: It’s back.

Been having a little trouble accessing the site today. I’m sure it’s just the usual issue with my cheap web host being… cheap. I’ll get in touch with tech support if it doesn’t resolve within a day or two. Past experience suggests they’ll fix it sooner or later, but contacting them won’t really make too much difference.

If it happens to you, just be patient and try again in a few minutes.

Remember how I made all the stuff from the old Tumblr blog available to download as an archive?

Well I thought I did that anyway. It turns out I goofed up to an incredible degree and somehow this went unnoticed for over a year. Most of the submissions were there, but all of my #original captions were missing! Instead I included just a handful of pictures, which were the ones I had finished but not posted yet. A simple matter of copying the wrong folder I guess, but considering the size difference, 20-some vs. over a thousand, it’s amazing that I neither noticed myself nor got called out on it. Ah well. Anyone interested can now download the missing pictures. You’ve got a few options:

Alternatively, you can get it as a torrent (magnet link). If anyone was seeding the old version, first, thanks I appreciate it, second I’d be even more grateful if you start seeding the new one. Your call whether it’s worth leaving the incomplete archive available too, but I’m inclined to think it can be disposed of.

I’ve added a links page to the top menu. Haven’t put too much on it yet, I mainly wanted to get a permanent link to All About Nudity up someplace now they they’re hosting some of my stories. Incidentally, did anyone spot the reference in the last post?

And I’m open to suggestions for other site to include in the links if anyone has any.

Here’s a question for you all. Would anyone be interested in having a button to share/reblog content from this site? I just happened to think of this the other day. It would (assuming people used them) be a way for me to get a little more exposure and for you to share your favorite pictures with people who might not see them otherwise. Obviously, given the content, you’re not gonna want to put this on Facebook… Tumblr would be the most obvious choice, or I assume there’s some kind of feature to make sharing between WordPress blogs easier (but I haven’t really looked into it yet). I’m open to suggestions about any other platforms too of course.

Just trying to gauge interest at the moment. Or find out if anyone has objections (privacy?) and would prefer I didn’t add share buttons. So please weigh in on the comments if you have any thoughts one way or the other.
